Jonathan B. Hall

 

Jonathan Bradford Hall was born on the Upper East Side of New York City. Raised in Gramercy Park and Port Washington, LI. Has lived in New York, Chicago, Indiana, and currently New Jersey.

Education

Saint Mary’s Boys’ High School, Manhasset; graduated with highest honors.

Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, Douglaston, Queens.

Master of Arts, with honors, English language and literature, the University of Chicago.

All PhD coursework and examinations completed, English language and literature, the University of Chicago.

Master of Music, with honors, Chicago College of the Performing Arts, Roosevelt University, Chicago.

Doctor of Music, Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, Bloomington.

Fellow of the American Guild of Organists; Choirmaster of the American Guild of Organists; Fellow of Trinity College, London.

Associate of the American Guild of Organists; with Associate Prize and S. Lewis Elmer Prize for highest scores in the nation.

Have served as editor of four chapter newsletters: The Console Crier (Chicago); Jubilate! (Bloomington); The AGO Times (New York City); The Brooklyn Bombarde (Brooklyn). Have served as Board Member, Secretary, Registrar, Sub-Dean, and Dean.

Publications: The American Organist, The Diapason, The Tracker, Bach Notes, Mensa Journal, Brooklyn Eagle, mPhasis, The East Hampton Star, others.

Calvin Hampton, a Musician Without Borders, Wayne Leupold Publications. Full-length biography of one of the most original and creative organists of our time. Published January, 2010.

Recordings: the Metropolitan Museum of Art Audio-Guide system; In Perfect Peace, a Brooklyn Pastorale; demonstration recording for J.H. and C.S. Odell Pipe Organs, East Hampton, CT.

Recitals: extensive, in US and overseas. Solo recitals in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Indianapolis, London, Oxford, Edinburgh, Cologne, Moscow, Singapore, many others.

With Bill Powers, concertize as Powers and Hall Duo.

Active amateur genealogist, have given workshops and written articles on the subject.
