Esperantist Composers

David Gaines, USA. graduate of several American music schools including Peabody. I enjoy his music in its own right, regardless of its passionate commitment to the Verda Lingvo.

Visit his website here.

Lou Harrison, also USA. Remarkable genius; a gay icon, fascinated by the Tridentine Mass, Peking Opera, and Esperanto, among other things. Truly, a man after my own heart, though I’d rather have Peking Duck after attending a Tridentine Mass and chatting in Esperanto over coffee with my partner…then again, my partner is not Catholic, and hasn’t learned Esperanto…

Here is his obituary from the New York Times.

Hi Jonathan and many thanks for your kind words. You and your readers might be interested in the obituary for Lou Harrison that Esperanto magazine asked me to write shortly after his death in 2003 (it’s in Esperanto, of course): http://www.davidgaines.org/storage/pdfs/harrison.pdf

    Best wishes,
