Piano

It’s here! Tali and her crew arrived at about 5:25, after a remarkably traffic-free drive from Yonkers to the middle of Brooklyn. The Mason and Hamlin is set up in the sanctuary, and looks like it’s always been there.

It will have a settling-in period, for sure. At the moment, it plays a little rawly, a little newly, a little coltishly. That is to be expected. We’ve acquired a fine instrument that will serve us well for years.

Stay tuned for information—early in the new year—about dedication exercises.

UPDATE: My friend Tom just called from Indiana to wish me “mazel tov” on the new piano. Here’s a cell-phone picture of the delivery process. The piano is substantial, elegant.

Who says good things can’t come from Yonkers (my hometown)?

LOL! Cantabile Pianos, Nepperhan Avenue. Besides J. H. and C. S. Odell and their heirs, that is!

There’s also that great diner on…where else?…Odell Avenue.

Tali is an amazing lady. She’s also developed an extraordinary eye and ear for great American pipe organs. Her sense of piano design and tone is complex and deep, a passion that breeds artistic certainty.
